KIA T-50TH, Advanced Trainer

The T-50, also known as the T-50th, is South Korea’s first domestically developed advanced supersonic jet trainer, designed to train next-generation fighter pilots. Developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, the T-50 features a digital fly-by-wire system, glass cockpit, and afterburning turbofan engine, enabling pilots to transition seamlessly to high-performance fighter jets like the F-16 and F-35.

The T-50 series includes several derivative models tailored for different roles:

  • FA-50: A light combat aircraft equipped with precision strike capabilities and advanced avionics.
  • TA-50: A Lead-In Fighter Trainer (LIFT) optimised for combat training with enhanced radar and weapons systems.
  • T-50B: An aerobatic demonstrator used by the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (ROKAF) Black Eagles display team.

Since entering operational service, the T-50 has demonstrated exceptional performance and training efficiency, earning international recognition. Since 2011, the aircraft has been exported to Indonesia, Iraq, the Philippines, and Thailand, strengthening its presence in the global market as a premier supersonic trainer and light combat jet.
